Day 9: 30 Days of Gorgeous- Ria

November 9, 2019

I work with mothers & babies to help them overcome challenges in the perinatal period

spontaneity, the feel of sunshine on my skin, feeling strong, aspiring to be one of those women who has endured & is wise, honesty, smiles & laughter, the spark of spirit in someone’s eyes,  joy, also the taste of really good chocolate

When do you feel most beautiful?

In sensual connection with another person.

Also when I’m feeling comfortable & enjoying what I am doing; maybe reading, cooking, knitting, sharing a yarn with a friend, holding a child

Be able to listen & to give is important – this means taking care of yourself so you can be available to others.  Mothering is a big part of my life – I have 6 wonderful sons who delight me daily.  I love paradox of woman being receptive & nurturing but also strong & persistent.  I try to be a responsive sister to my own sister – she teaches me so much about strength & sensitivity.

My adaptability – I’m up for just about anything & my tendency to persevere with things until they are done.

(These are also features I dislike at times.)

Tell me your story:

I balked at this question the first time, I’m not sure I’m ready to answer it yet.  I think I am a still “under construction”.

what is the biggest turning point in your life?

The very difficult decision to leave a very unhappy & exploitative relationship, even though I shared children with the person who was hurting me.  This was also one of  most difficult things I have ever had to do.  I still sometimes have fleeting thoughts of how life could have been different, for example much ‘easier’ financially if I had stayed, but also more dangerous for me physically & emotionally.  Ultimately, I am not someone who can live a lie – I’d rather have ugly truths than pretty lies.what is the biggest turning point in your life?

is still learning how to be who I am

Tell me about a goal you are working on:

Singing for a production of Chess (a rock opera) in Newcastle next March, then visiting Marostica for a Chess game next September.  Maybe  improving my chess game at throughout, so my children don’t learn to beat me!

To get more comfortable in an activity (being in front of a camera) that i usually avoid & don’t typically feel comfortable with.

To see if I could have fun in this space.

My husband Will, he is my confidante & biggest support.

Thank you, Ria , for taking part in this project.  I hope to see you again soon!

Thanks to the wonderful team of Fresh Salon Nelson Bay that did the absolute amazing make over. ( www.freshsalon.com.au)
