With so many beaches to choose from a Dutchies beach wedding is one of my favourites!
When I got a phone call of Melissa to photograph her wedding at Dutchies beach I knew straight away it was gonna be a special wedding! I know Mel and David for a while and over the past years we cross paths at different events, but I hadn’t seen them for a while so it was great to hear that they had chosen me to be their photographer for their wedding.
Asking them where the wedding ceremony would be held was a clear ‘ it’s a Dutchies beach wedding!’ With so many amazing beaches in Port Stephens you can’t go wrong, but I have lived just one street away from this beach so it was extra special and hidden in a corner a perfect place to get married.!
David was getting ready with three of his kids, the little boys. Although I have three kids myself too I forgot how long it takes to get three little ones dressed in all their outfits, but with the help of Kate and David’s mates in no time the boys transformed to handsome little men dressed in navy and light blue. All ready for the Dutchies beach wedding ceremony..! With all the joy of getting married this day was also a very emotional day for them with special memories to Molly their daughter that passed away. David showed me his tattoo on his chest of her and Mel attached some special memories of her at her wedding bouquet.
Melissa was getting ready with her bridesmaids and her mum in their beautiful house at Corlette. An amazing big house that fits their big family, it was picture perfect for photos.! I was joking with Mel ‘ let me know if your house is on the market and I will buy it’ not knowing I could open my wallet straight away as it was for sale 😉 Just stunning heigh ceilings and an amazing staircase with beautiful filtered light. All perfect for some getting ready photos with Mel and her bridesmaids.
When everyone was ready the limousine and beautiful old-timer came to pick up the girls to head of to their dutchies beach wedding.
We all missed out on the drama one sunbathing lady created by not willing to move her towel from the wedding scene… Lucky she did at the end after lots of convincing otherwise I had to create some hilarious images of that.. All dramas solved and we were all ready for the beautiful words of Kris Klum that married Mel and David against the backdrop of Port Stephens bay.
When we were talking about location photos in the area Mel was pretty clear and said you are the expert I trust you completely just take us somewhere you like and it is a bit different. So we did some quick photos with all the kids at Dutchies beach -as all the little boys were pretty tired by that time – then we drove with the limo and oldtimer to Roy Wood Reserve in Port Stephens. Being only a 5 minute drive from their Dutchies beach wedding this was perfect. At low tide it is amazing, trees sticking out, white sand, blue skies… what else can we wish for?
Mel and Davids friends own an absolute beauty of a car and of course we had to finish the location shoot with some stunning photos of them in this car before heading down to Broughtons at the Bay where the reception after party started..! The amazing girls from white roses styling had transformed the venue with an amazing modern floral wedding theme. I love shooting weddings at Broughtons as everyone that works there is so super friendly and not only looking after all the guests but make me feel included too ( big thanks team..!)
The day ended with some emotional speeches reflecting on Mel and David’s lives together and of course some groovy moves on the dance floor as DJ Mane Events was pumping up the volume!
