Tips for selecting the perfect outfits for a family shoot
Now you might have organised your family shoot or are thinking about doing one… but what are the perfect outfits for a family shoot?
“What to wear?” is the most common question I get asked as a family photographer.
Check out this recent shoot I have done for Shannon and Gareth and their two boys.
After I chatted to Sharon about the shoot, the amazing location I had in mind, we talked about what they could wear and how to get the perfect outfits for a family shoot together for them.
It does not need to be complicated though…. I really want you to be yourself..
I have put a few tips together that might help you in getting the outfits together so I am able to create wall art for you that works great with your home decor and fits the style you are after.

This shoot was in July…
The middle of Winter.
Some people think it is not the best time for shoots but I disagree.
It is just perfect as the sunsets early and my sunset shoot start around 4pm. To get this nice golden sunset light in Summer it means shooting at around 7 pm, this is often not so handy for little kids as they get tired and hungry and are most often not at their best.
The other thing I love about winter shoots is that you can wear long sleeves and it is often flattering and adding some extra colour to the images to create the perfect outfits for a family shoot.
The grass is lovely green and the bushes are a perfect colour for a mixed backdrop.
So after I explained some of the tips from my blogpost to Shannon she had a good idea of the perfect outfits for a family shoot.
She started of with her dress that had an amazing floral pattern and then she picked colours that were in this dress to match with the outfits of the boys. So the red and blues came back in the jumpers and the ever so slightly different colours of the boys pants made it a perfect mixture .
It also had enough contrast to the beach and the sand and the blue colours of the sky. Further more it were the perfect outfits for a family shoot during the sunset as the warmth of that golden light worked amazingly well! So well done..!
