The best locations for your pet photography session

May 25, 2020

Pets are so part of your family that for you family photo session you want them to be part if it too. Here some tips for the best locations for your pet photography session.

I love all pets.. dogs, cats, rabbits etc. I have had them all and they were all part of my family. Assuming we talk about dogs now let me tell you some amazing places where you can photograph your dog or be photographed by a professional photographer and what to look out for. Here are some of my favourites!

Beach

Beaches are great as most dogs love the water and feel happy running around with plenty of space. Choose a dog beach where your dog can run of leash.

Dog Park

If your dog is used to visit a fenced dog park this can be a great place for a pet photography session. Dog parks are safe and fenced and keeps your dog nice inside the boundaries with lots of opportunity to grab that perfect photo.

Boardwalks

Board walks are great as they create what they call leading lines ( the boardwalk) towards the subject. You will find them in the bush or as an entrance to the beach. This is a great moment to sit down with your dog and get some great portraits shot on eye level.

Football fields

Big open fields are a great alternative if your dog might be distracted by other dogs on a dog beach. Instead take your dog out to the football fields for your pet photography session where there is lots of space and you can kick a ball and catch those ‘ jumping in the air moments’ of your pet.

Low water puddles

Planning a dog photography session after it has just rained and you can see puddles of water is perfect. The puddle creates a little mirror and gives an amazing effect if the photograph is taken from a really low angle.

Your home

For a more photojournalistic style of pet photography session plan it in your own home. Dogs will be really comfortable in their own environment and if you are lucky you can even catch them asleep. Beds are great to photograph dogs too, yes even if they normally are not allowed just do it for this session as the results will be rewarding!

Gardens

Imagine pets photographed with a backdrop of flowerbeds, beautiful gardens are great for photography.

In the Studio

Photographing pets in a professional photography studio will give amazing results. Studio lights will pop the eyes of your dog and with a studio session with ME Photography you will have access to all different colours of backdrops and chairs. The big advantage of a studio pet photography session is that pets are confined and cannot get away. There is limited distraction which is great. Only eyes for the camera. They can even be photographed with a lead on and it can be photoshopped out later with the magic of photoshop.

In the city

Colourful buildings, Graffiti on walls, alleyways and glass of buildings that acts like a mirror is great for a modern dog photography shoot.

When you are thinking of getting some great portraits of your pets make sure that you are ready to jump in the photo too as nothing is better than ending up with an amazing piece of wall art with you and your loved dog.
